About hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy, explained without the mystery.

A calm, collaborative way to focus your attention, use your imagination and work towards a change you have chosen. You remain aware, involved and in control throughout.

A focused state of attention

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a state of absorbed, focused attention. It can feel a little like becoming immersed in a book, a film, a piece of music or your own thoughts.

Hypnotherapy uses that focused state purposefully. Through conversation, guided attention, imagery and suggestions agreed with you, we work towards the response or change you want to develop.

Some people feel deeply relaxed. Others simply feel quiet, attentive or absorbed. There is no performance to give and no special feeling you have to achieve.

What we are working with

Simple human abilities, used with purpose.

Hypnotherapy does not depend on magic or mind control. It brings together abilities you already use in everyday life.

01

Focused attention

Reducing outside distractions can make it easier to stay with one idea, feeling or goal at a time.

02

Useful imagination

Imagery and rehearsal can help you explore a different response before carrying it into everyday situations.

03

Agreed suggestions

The language used in hypnosis is shaped around your goals and only works with your participation.

Myth, meet reality

What hypnotherapy is not.

Stage performances have given hypnosis a dramatic reputation. A private therapeutic session is quieter, collaborative and centred on your goals.

Myth

“I will be asleep.”

You remain conscious. You can hear what is said and respond whenever you want to.

Myth

“The therapist takes control.”

You keep your judgement and choice. You do not have to accept a suggestion that you do not want.

Myth

“I will reveal my secrets.”

Hypnosis is not a truth serum. You decide what you share, just as you would in any conversation.

Myth

“I must feel completely different.”

For many people it feels ordinary: calm, focused and absorbed. Experiences naturally vary.

Inside a session

A clear process, with no surprises.

I explain the process before we begin and adapt it to you. A typical session follows four simple stages.

  1. 01

    We talk

We discuss what has been happening, what you want instead and anything you are unsure about.

  2. 02

    You settle and focus

I guide your attention in a way that feels comfortable. You can sit normally, move and speak.

  3. 03

    We do the therapeutic work

We use language, imagery and ideas chosen for your goal, with your active involvement.

  4. 04

    We reflect and continue

We discuss the experience, answer questions and agree any useful next step.

Common questions

It is sensible to be curious.

If your question is not answered here, bring it to the clarity call. Nothing begins until you understand the process and feel comfortable proceeding.

Can everybody be hypnotised?

People vary in how they experience hypnosis, and willingness matters. You do not have to become deeply relaxed or “go under” for us to work together; the process is collaborative rather than a test you pass or fail.

Will I remember the session?

Most people remain aware and remember the session. I do not use suggestions intended to make you forget what happened.

Could I get stuck in hypnosis?

No. You can speak, move, open your eyes or end the process whenever you choose.

Does hypnotherapy work online?

The conversation, focused-attention exercises and therapeutic process can all be delivered by video. Privacy, comfort and a stable internet connection are the practical essentials.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no honest one-size-fits-all answer. It depends on the issue, your goal and how you respond. We will discuss this openly and review progress rather than committing you to unnecessary sessions.

Is hypnotherapy suitable for everyone?

Not always. Hypnotherapy is complementary support, not medical treatment. If you have epilepsy, schizophrenia or a history of psychosis, or you are seeking help with medical symptoms, speak with your GP or appropriate healthcare professional before booking.

Responsible practice

Clear boundaries matter.

Hypnotherapy does not replace diagnosis, medical care, prescribed medication or crisis support. I will always be straightforward if your needs would be better supported by another professional.
